Pub Guide

The Swan, Bishopgate street.

Don't let the Tetley's sign put you off, they do sell a great range of real ales always on good form. This pub is rich in heritage and possesses my favourite piece of historic pub design - a drinking corridor where the servants used to partake in vertical drinking away from their seated masters.

The Victoria, Heslington Road.

Friendly landlord, nice old pub, good ales from the Old Mill Brewery and a couple of good ciders as well. Not too far from Uni, so makes a good place to stop off on bar crawls from campus..

The Hansom Cab, Market Street

Incredibly cheap tasty beer from Sam Smiths brewery, 1.36 a pint, 'nuff said.

The Brewery, Toft Green

York Brewery has its own pub upstairs. It's members and guests only but membership isn't expensive and access to cheap beer means you can easily make it back. Friendly staff, comfy leather chairs and cheap York ales. And they have a members night on Tuesdays with £1 a pint. Definately worth walking straight past Toffs for.

The Ackhorne

A good pub needs a big selection of fine ales and a good host. The Ackhorne has Lisa to accommodate and beer to serve. A visit is a must for all enthusiasts, regardless of drinking experience!

The Bluebell Inn, 53 Fossgate

Not a large Inn by any means, but very cosy with its wood panelled walls and lit fires. Close to the town centre with a good selection of ales that include Adnams. This place is a must for me whenever possible.
